I just want to let you know that I find the current tactic of attaching Hate Crimes legislation to a defense appropriations bill to be highly improper.  While I understand that you and I may differ in our view of homosexuality, and the agenda the GLBT is promoting, attaching any volatile legislation to a defense appropriations bill is dirty politics in my opinion, and politics as usual.  I thought you promised to move forward and stop playing games in Washington, D.C.

I am proud of the men and women that are serving our country, and putting their lives on the line for my everyday freedoms.  The spending of my tax dollars to support them and provide for their needs is some of the best money that is spent by the Federal government every year.

It is extremely disappointing that the Senators in charge have chosen to risk the lives of our soldiers by attaching a piece of legislation that is unconstitutional at its core.

You see, the Constitution of the United States of America guarantees equal protection for all citizens under the law.  That means that if a radical Muslim hates me because I am a Christian, they are allowed to hate me.  If they then attack me, they would be entitled to due process and hopefully, if convicted, would be sentenced to the highest possible time allowed by law.  I don’t think that they should be punished for extra time because their crime was one of religion, nor should they be punished for less time because they “really believed what they were doing was right.”  You see, our the law is supposed to protect not just the minority or the majority of people, but ALL people, equally.

While I wish that this email would actually have an impact on your decisions when you vote, I am not foolish enough to think that you will actually ever see it.  In fact, the older I get, the more I begin to understand why many of the founding fathers were concerned that this form of government would not be able to last.  You see, when the people in power begin to believe that those they represent are only important on one Tuesday in November, then the government the founding fathers invented ceases to exist.
